East Renfrew Council has taken the first new Volvo FE Low Entry Cab onto their Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCV) fleet. It will join 30 other Volvos that are part of the 160-strong fleet of RCVs, sweepers, tippers and highway maintenance vehicles operated by the council.

The Volvo FE LEC is configured around a 26 tonne 6x2 rear-steer, tag-axle rigid chassis. The driveline features the Volvo D7 engine rated at 300hp, plus the Allison 6-speed automatic gearbox which helps the FE LEC easily keep pace with city traffic and cope with the demands of stop-start waste collection.

Gordon Moffatt, Operations Manager - Transport, for East Renfrewshire Council said, “I’ve been looking at the low-entry RCV options for a while now and it’s been reliability concerns that have stopped me buying. Now that the Volvo FE LEC is available, I’ve been able to order with confidence. All our fleet over 12 tonnes are Volvos, so I’m familiar with the quality of the product and the back-up.”

The new Volvo FE LEC 6x2 is fitted with a Heil RCV body and splits it’s duties between domestic waste collection, garden waste and food refuse which is transported to a digester facility.

Gordon Moffatt concluded, “Our long-standing relationship with the Volvo team at Cardonald, and our confidence in them and the Volvo product, has made this one of my easier purchasing decisions.”

East Renfrew Council’s new FE LEC was supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland and is being maintained at the Volvo Dealer’s Glasgow West facility at Cardonald on a three-year repair and maintenance contract.
