Skoda gears up for the London Bike Show

Skoda is gearing up for one of the UK’s largest cycling events, The London Bike Show, which starts today (13 January 2010).  As the main sponsor, the car manufacturer will put on quite a show, giving visitors to the Skoda Bike Arena the opportunity to test bikes and cars alike, as well as offering one lucky attendee the chance to win a money-can’t-buy prize.

Skoda has a long association with cycling, with the company starting out life building bicycles back in 1895.  Today, Skoda is better known for its multi award-winning cars, but its passion for bikes remains.

Visitors can test the off-roading capability of Skoda’s multi award-winning 4x4, the Yeti, as they drive across gravity-defying articulation ramps.  The stand will also have a pump track and mountain bike circuit for testing bikes and members of Rapha Condor Sharp and Team Raleigh will be on hand to offer advice to cyclists.   Skoda provides the support vehicles for both teams, who have chosen the luxurious and spacious Superb Estate to follow the teams as they travel the world, and their liveried cars will be on show.

In addition, fans of the teams can win a once-in-a-lifetime trip in the Team Raleigh support car at a 2011 UK cycling event of their choice, including the prestigious Tour of Britain.

Heidi Cartledge, Head of Marketing at Skoda UK, said, “Cycling is a sport that is deep-rooted in the history and heritage of Skoda, and it is therefore important that we support its future.  Our cars are favoured by cyclists as they are robust, reliable and spacious, and we will continue to manufacture cars that suit their needs.  This show is really important to us, which is why we have put on such a spectacular display.  We want to offer a space that allows visitors to try out bikes and cars alike, as well as offering a sense of excitement and fun.”

At 13:00 each day at the Skoda Bike Arena, spectators can watch the Rapha Condor Sharp and Team Raleigh go head-to-head off the track, in a game of Trivia Pursuit, where they will be quizzed about cycling throughout the ages.  Hosted by cycling commentator Anthony McCrossan, this promises to be a challenge that provides the perfect mix of fun and facts.

The London Bike Show runs from Thursday 13 January to Sunday the 16 January at ExCel London and tickets are available at thelondonbikeshow.co.uk.  For further information about Skoda and its range of award-winning cars visit skoda.co.uk.
