Elektromotive powers EV launches at Brussels Motor Show

Brighton-based Elektromotive, the world’s leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, will be showcasing its latest technology alongside a host of new EVs at the Brussels Motor Show (15 to 23 January). The firm has also confirmed plans to commence a new phase of expansion by exporting this year into North American and Asian markets.
Elektromotive’s appointed product reseller for Belgium, ThePluginCompany, will be providing charging points to be displayed at the Brussels Motor Show alongside some major new electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, including the Opel Ampera, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, and the 2011 European Car of the Year, the Nissan Leaf.
As part of the event’s ‘Drive Your Dream’ theme, where consumers can get behind the wheel of the latest cars on the market on an indoor circuit, the Elektrobay will also be providing power to a range of EVs, giving visitors the chance to experience for themselves how the technology works.
“The ‘Drive Your Dream‘ circuit is a great way to show the benefits of electric cars to the public,” explained Calvey Taylor-Haw, Managing Director of Elektromotive. “It’s gratifying that Elektrobays have been chosen to power this feature within the Show, as well as take centre stage in the Halls alongside new EV exhibits.
“I don’t think there is any doubt that 2011 could well be the year of the electric vehicle. However, while there is enormous potential for mass uptake of EVs, this may well be little more than a pipe-dream without a suitable recharging infrastructure in place,” added Taylor-Haw. “This is why it’s so important to demonstrate the benefits of EVs alongside well-proven recharging technology like the Elektrobay to as many people as possible.
“Rolling out recharging networks isn’t a hurdle confined to Europe. We see similar problems arising in Asia and the Americas where many EVs are set to come on sale soon, produced by US and Japanese, as well as European-based manufacturers. With experience in installing the Elektrobay in large numbers across the UK and Europe, Elektromotive is ideally placed to expand into these markets, particularly India and China. This is a huge opportunity for us, and our strategic business plan will see us exploit these export opportunities even more aggressively in 2011,” concluded Taylor-Haw.
The European Motor Show is located at the Brussels Expo in Heysel, and is expected to welcome over 600,000 visitors.
