Radical automotive artist, Ian Cook, renowned for using radio controlled cars to produce his pieces, has created a special piece of artwork, the Police Lotus Evora. The painting will be revealed to PC Angus Nairm when the £50,000, 160mph Police car makes a special visit to the Heritage Motor Centre on Thursday 27 January.

The Lotus Evora has been on loan from Lotus for the past month and has been used to highlight the 2011 campaign about speeding and road safety for the CMPG - the Central Motorway Police Group. The car has been used on the Midlands Motorways by the CMPG Police, primarily by PC Angus Nairm, an officer who also can be seen on BBC1’s popular ‘Motorway Cops’ programme.

Ian, who is the HMC’s artist in residence, is acclaimed for creating bespoke artworks using radio controlled cars to produce paintings at UK, European and International events. The Lotus Evora made its debut recently at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham where police used it as an educational and eye catching tool to teach young drivers about the dangers of speed. Ian Cook from Popbang Colour, was at the popular show creating and featuring his work and agreed to create a one-off artwork of the car.

Penny Tyler, Marketing Officer for the Heritage Motor Centre stated, “We’re delighted that the Police Lotus Evora is to visit the HMC and look forward to seeing Ian create one his fantastic masterpieces. The Lotus also happens to be the first emergency vehicle that Ian has painted. Ian has a huge following and this painting will no doubt attract many visitors to the museum to watch him in action.”

Ian is known for creating artworks such as a giant portrait of Lewis Hamilton, which was the size of a three-story building. He was also featured on BBC’s Top Gear and Blue Peter and has also painted using actual cars for one commissioned piece. More recently F1 driver Jenson Button helped to paint an artwork of his race car in Abu Dhabi with Ian.

Visitors can see Ian in his ‘Popbang Colour’ studio located within the museum at the Heritage Motor Centre. Museum entry fees are: Adults priced at £11, Children priced at £8 (5-16 years) under 5’s are free, Concessions are priced at £9 and a Family ticket is priced at £34.
