£10 wedding dresses

It's 2011 - the new age of austerity. Like the Royal couple Kate and William you're getting married this year. But unlike them, you've got a shoestring budget to work with. What do you do? Call Mary Jane Baxter, that's what!

Craft writer and style expert Mary Jane Baxter took up a challenge from BBC TV's Breakfast to come up with a wedding dress for £10. Inspired by catwalk trends and using materials from markets, charity shops and friends, she's created not one, but three stunning outfits, all coming in at well under the target price. To see how she achieved this, tune in to Breakfast News on Saturday Jan 22nd or go to her blog: makeyourwayaroundbritain.blogspot.com

There'll be plenty more ideas for customising and embellishing outfits in her book, Chic on a Shoestring, published by Kyle Cathie in May - £14.99. It's currently available for pre-order on amazon.co.uk

Mary Jane Baxter is a writer and craft expert. She worked as a full time BBC journalist for 12 years before leaving her job as a foreign reporter and producer to train as a couture hat maker. She worked with milliner to the stars Stephen Jones in London, did a stint with Marc Jacobs in Paris, and sold her first collection to the Harvey Nichols flagship store in Knightsbridge. She runs textile and millinery courses across Europe and writes and reports on fashion, craft and creativity. Her first book "Chic on a Shoestring" is due out in May this year.
