Three new Volvo FM three-axle tractors have helped Bernard Matthews Farms through their Christmas rush. The iconic turkey farmers took the new trucks onto their fleet as the feathers started to fly in the run up to the festive season.

Transport Manager Jeff Helmore said, “We had a couple of Volvos on our feed fleet a while back, but these three new Volvo FMs will be working on the main fleet pulling live bird collection trailers and doing their share of fridge work too.” With a fleet of forty tractors, eighty trailers and a few light rigids, the Bernard Matthews transport operation is successfully through their usual manic end to the year.

The Volvo FM-420 6x2 tractors have been acquired on an HP deal and they will be serviced by the supplying dealer, Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia’s Norwich Dealerpoint, under a repair and maintenance contract.

On the road for November 1st, the trucks are settling in well. Jeff Helmore adds, “It’s early days on fuel of course, but the initial signs are good. Our drivers like the new trucks and they have given the Volvo I-Shift automated gearbox a collective thumbs-up.”

These are the first Volvos to go into Bernard Matthews Great Witchingham depot and they will be operating mainly around East Anglia and Lincolnshire.
