With a number of wine regions stretch from the Swan Valley close to Perth to the up-and-coming wineries of the Great Southern, Western Australia has established itself as a food and wine lovers paradise largely due to the exceptional quality local produce which is on offer.

The most famous is Margaret River in the south west. Blessed with a perfect Mediterranean maritime climate, the area boasts spectacular surfing and swimming beaches, tall timber forests, caves, award winning restaurants and luxurious accommodation as well as top-class wineries.

Drawing on comparisons to France’s Bordeaux in terms of climate and wine styles; the Margaret River has forged its reputation on Cabernet Sauvignon and shiraz in the reds and Chardonnay and Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc blends in the whites.

Watch our video with wine expert Oz Clarke as he offers his top tips on why Western Australian wines are the ones to watch this year, with some beautiful footage of what to expect from WA as a holiday destination
