We are so wrapped in our own economic problems that we do not hear about how the global recession is affecting countries overseas – in particular South Africa.

The recession arrived in southern Africa much later than ours and, as a consequence, many safari and tour operating companies are currently offering reduced prices.

UK operator Fleewinter offers a wealth of choice to South Africa and has some great offers as a result of South Africa’s economic downturn, for example:

13 day Cape Town and Garden Route Safari – save £310 pp

Travel before the end of March and save £310 pp off the regular price.

A perfect whistle stop trip covering all of the highlights including four nights in Cape Town staying at Abbey Manor, then two nights staying at Gable Manor - a lovely owner run guest house positioned with lovely views of the Franschhoek Mountains.

The famous Garden Route is next with four nights spent at Cottage Pie, just walking distance from the white sandy beaches of Plettenberg Bay and finally a two-night safari in the malaria-free game reserve of Amakhala with safari drives to spot the Big Five, with accommodation at the luxurious Bukela Game Lodge.

The holiday now costs from £1440 per person (two sharing), which includes 12 nights’ accommodation, some meals (10 nights’ B&B and 2 nights’ full-board on safari), car hire and game drives. Price excludes flights from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town. Fleewinter can book international flights on request (from approx. £650 pp).

Fleewinter specialises in offering a concierge-style service with international and regional flights, car-hire, private chauffeurs, restaurant/concert/sporting bookings and baby-sitting all available on request. Booking through Fleewinter is the same price (or cheaper) than booking direct and its AITO membership means 100% financial protection.

In addition to Cape Town and the Garden Route Fleewinter also offers holidays to Zanzibar, Lamu, Tanzania, Brazil, Bali, Barbados, St. Lucia, Tobago, the Maldives, Morocco, Sri Lanka & Thailand.
