Sunvil Sailing

Sunvil Sailing specialises in learn-to-sail yachting holidays off Lefkas island in the Greek Ionian Sea with a choice of accommodation either on board the boat or shore-based in a hotel, villa or apartment.

These run from May to October with special share-a-yacht 'pot-luck' weeks early and late season, which are ideal for singles and parties too small to hire their own yacht.

The holidays are suitable for the complete novice as well as those with a little sailing experience or whose knowledge has lapsed; courses cater for singles, couples, groups and families with youngsters from around nine years upwards. The superb coastal scenery, warm sheltered waters and favourable wind conditions provide a safe and pleasant location in which to learn new boating skills.

Live-Aboard
For those choosing to live-aboard the tuition yachts form the lead boats in a small flotilla, which departs from Sunvil's base at Nidri. Holidaymakers will literally learn the ropes under the watchful eye of a qualified instructor as they cruise the beautiful Ionian Islands.

A lively social side is ensured every evening when the yachts moor up together for dinner ashore. The flotilla will cruise the southern Ionian area taking in the islands of Ithaca, Kephalonia, Kastos, Kalomos and Meganissi as well as various ports south of Lefkas and on the Greek mainland.

Dependent on ability, this can lead to Non-tidal Yacht Crew certification (Silver Seal for those aged 12 and above) or Non-Tidal Yacht Skipper certification (Gold Seal for the 16 plus). Youngsters aged 9 to 12 years can gain an introduction to yachting Star. Under 16s need to be accompanied by an adult.

Prices start from £783 per person per week based on two sharing a cabin to include return flights from London Gatwick (Manchester Supplement £39pp) to Prevesa, transfers, live-aboard accommodation and tuition. There is a £70ppw payment on-site to cover welcome starter pack, yacht damage waiver, fuel, port papers, certification, etc.

Shore-Based Accommodation
First time sailors, families and groups where not everybody wishes to learn-to-sail, or holidaymakers who prefer greater comfort, can take the shore-based option choosing to stay in a hotel B&B, self-catering apartment or waterside villa.

They can then book as many two-day sailing units as they wish with instruction from £160pp (minimum two people), which can lead to Level One or Two Keelboat certification. This is also ideal as an introduction to yachting or a pre-flotilla brush-up for the experienced and certified but rusty sailor.

Non-sailing guests can simply relax by the pool, try some watersports, join an excursion or hire a car and drive along the coast or explore inland.

B&B at the Hotel Armonia is from £568pppw for two sharing or a two-bedroom apartment is £578pppw based on four guests, including flights and transfers. For a greater level of luxury, Sunvil Sailing offer a superb, contemporary waterside villa with a private pool and deep water mooring sleeping seven, or nine with extra folding beds. A week's stay at Villa Mahera is from £840ppw for three sharing or £636 for six people, including flights. It's also available excluding flights at prices ranging from £1,000 up to £2,500 per week dependent on the time of year and number of guests.
