Clash of the titans

Volvo FH12

A tough job meets a tough truck in the deep north west of Scotland as Loch Clash Fish put another Volvo on the road, an FH-540 6x2 tractor unit.

Hauling white fish out of Kinlochbervie harbour, it’s steep narrow highland roads and top weights all the way, and with the most perishable of loads, reliability is the key to success.

David Ross, of Loch Clash Fish, has been operating out of the remote fishing port in Sutherland since the seventies and he has run a string of Volvos as far back as the F86. His recent FH12 was sold with 1.2 million kilometres on the clock.

David said: “The Volvos have served us very well and this latest one is the first we’ve taken with an I-Shift automated gearbox. The demanding terrain climbing out of the port every day has to be the toughest of tests for an auto, but the Volvo I-Shift manages it very smoothly. Our driver, Richard Urquhart, is very impressed with it.”

The new FH will be hauling across the north of Scotland to Fraserburgh, Aberdeen and Peterhead as well as longer trips to Brittany’s fish markets.

David’s new Volvo will be managed on an R&M contract through his supplying dealer, the Inverness Dealerpoint of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre, North & Scotland.
