Scorpion Exhausts backs three BTCC teams for 2011

Scorpion, the Derbyshire-based exhaust manufacturer has confirmed it will be the technical partner for no less than three BTCC teams for the 2011 season. The deal sees Scorpion providing bespoke exhaust systems for the Honda UK, Airwaves Racing and Special Tuning teams as well as technical support throughout the season.

Over the last few months, Scorpion’s R&D engineers have been working closely with their respective counterparts at each of the teams, analysing their previous systems and seeing where improvements can be made – particularly in light of the new ‘turbo’ regulations and the move to smaller displacements.

Although understandably, all parties were reluctant to reveal the precise specifications of their individual design, each system is hand-fabricated by the same skilled engineers and craftsmen that produce all of Scorpion’s products.

Commenting on the deal, Managing Director Shaun Leonard said ‘We are delighted to be back at the top table of Motorsport again. We have been a major force in two wheeled motorsport for several years now, so it’s great for our engineering teams to return to BTCC as the ultimate development arena for their talents. It may be a well worn cliché, but there is always a clear ‘trickle-down’ from our motorsport programmes into our road ranges, so our customers can expect a few BTCC details and refinements to start appearing on our tuning products.’

The season starts on the 2nd and 3rd of April at Brands hatch. Based on the previous form of the Scorpion-backed teams, don’t discount a podium or two on the first outing!
