Katherine Kelly meets and greats at the opening of the new 'Infusion' development in Moss Side.

With Government figures released on 17 February confirming that the completion of new homes in England in 2010 hit an all time low, there is good news today, Saturday 26 February for people wishing to get on the property ladder in Manchester.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky McDonald in the soap, opened three show homes at ‘Infusion’ development, in a new style of street, one designed for the 21st century. This new development shows how good the lifestyle can be in the refurbishment and conversion of 64 Victorian terraced properties that offer a choice of attractive 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom homes.

This groundbreaking development is by Manchester City Council in partnership with Miller Homes and GB Building Solutions in an area that is known as the Bowes Street Regeneration Scheme in Moss Side. This is the second of three phases of the Moss Side and Rusholme District Loacal Plan and is funded to the tune of £17m, by the Homes and Communities Agency. Architects M.B.L.A. have designed the new homes, which tick all the right boxes for location, style, specification and price. If the interest and reservations confirmed at the opening are anything to go by, these properties seem destined to become the next big thing to hit the Manchester property market.

Miller Homes are responsible for the sales, marketing and customer care. Carolyn Walsh, Miller Homes Project Manager, said: “ Infusion is already creating a lot of new interest in Moss Side, not least because of the great location, just a mile and a half South of the city centre and convenient for the universities and hospital districts. These refurbished terraced homes retain the character of the Victorian architecture yet offer all the benefits of energy efficient, comfortable new homes. They offer an outstanding specification and great value. We also offer a bespoke shared equity scheme. For people that qualify they could pay a minimum of 70% of the price of the new home now. This means a two-bed home, valued at £99,950, can be bought for just £69,965 now*.”

The specification is a strong selling point. The long list of features includes contemporary SieMatic kitchen with stylish downlighters and slate floors plus an integrated appliance package of a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The bathrooms are beautifully equipped with rain showers and floor to ceiling Italian tiling. Solid oak internal doors and brushed steel sockets and switches, show the quality and attention to detail. Secure by design ground floor doors and windows, sun pipes, thermal skin of insulation, bicycle store and rear garden decking come as standard. The 4-bed homes have an en-suite, garage and covered balcony. Later in the ‘Infusion’ development there will be seven 4-bed new build ‘Eco-Homes’ offered.

The celebrity opening also focussed on Moss Side’s vibrant history and its contribution to the cultural life of Manchester. There was a guest appearance by filmmaker Karen Gabay whose film ‘Memories of Moss Side and Hulme’ played at the opening. Author Joe Pemberton, who grew up in Moss Side in the 1960s had a book signing and musician Barry Adamson who’s recent works include his debut album ‘Moss Side Story’ also made guest appearances. ‘Fancy Faces’ face painting artist Olivia entertained children, making it a family friendly event.

At the opening, house prices were confirmed: A two bedroom ‘Oak’ design is £99,950. The three bed ‘Ash’ is £115,000 and the 4-bed Rowan with en-suite, balcony and garage is £149,950.

Full details are available from the ‘Infusion’ Marketing Suite located on Beresford Street, Moss Side, M14 4RY. It is open Thursdays to Mondays, 10.30am to 5.30 pm.
