Get set for the Great American Pie Festival

9th March 2011 Print

Brits have long thought of themselves as the unofficial pie connoisseurs with stake to a tasty range of treats from the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie right through to the unconventional pie, the Cornish Pasty....however Kissimmee in central Florida has started paving a name for itself as 'Pie Capital of the World', having been host to the annual Great American Pie Festival for the past nine years.

Every April the aptly named town of Celebration in Kissimmee brings together pie lovers, tasters and bakers from across the globe to share a mutual appreciation for the popular pastry dish.

This year the event is taking place on 9 and 10 April, 2011 at Celebration Lakeside Park. Between bites visitors can enjoy musical entertainment and an impressive line up of events and activities for the whole family. Children can get involved with pie making activities at the Kids Creation Station, while parents can get stuck in with pie decorating, pie scaping and pie tin art. There are also baking demonstrations from chefs across the USA along with some tasty treats to take home.

The pinnacle of this event has to be the Never-Ending Pie Buffet - an array of award-winning pies, ice creams and toppings that goes hand in hand with the Pie Eating Contest.
