Public art complements new homes in Bracknell

A spectacular sculpture is set to provide the centrepiece for Taylor Wimpey’s The Parks development of property for sale in Bracknell Forest.
Taylor Wimpey has taken delivery of an exciting new piece of public art – and will spend the coming weeks preparing it for its official unveiling at The Parks development of apartments and houses for sale in Bracknell.
The leading housebuilder is investing some £100,000 in community artworks to be placed in the green spaces and public recreation areas within its popular development of 730 new properties in Bracknell.
In association with Bracknell Forest Council and public art consultancy Art Point, Taylor Wimpey commissioned sculptor Martin Heron to produce a spectacular work of art which is set to become an eye-catching focal point of this new community of houses and flats for sale in Bracknell.
The ‘Leaf Barrier’ comprises a collection of curved pieces of steel, each inspired in shape and appearance by the natural form of the oak leaf, and fitting together to create a striking sculpture measuring 150 metres long.
Located in Blenheim Avenue, the impressive artwork will act as a ‘gateway’ linking the streets and homes of The Parks with a new area of parkland which is due to be opened at the development of Bracknell flats and houses in the spring.
Tim Betts, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “We’re really excited that the first piece of public art at The Parks is set to be unveiled to the community very soon.
“We have taken delivery of the sculpture’s component parts and members of our site team will now spend the next few weeks carefully putting the piece together according to the artist’s detailed instructions.
“As well as building beautiful new homes, we are committed to creating wonderful public amenities and recreation areas at The Parks for local people to enjoy, and we are looking forward to revealing this stunning centrepiece for the community.”
The ‘Leaf Barrier’ sculpture is the first of a number of public artworks which will be installed within the open spaces at The Parks, with details of future projects yet to be confirmed.
The Parks is being delivered by Taylor Wimpey in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency, and the housebuilder is investing a total of £1 million in community and sports facilities to complement the new homes.
The development comprises a combination of one and two-bedroom apartments through to two, three and four-bedroom houses, and with around 300 properties already built or currently under construction, it is on course for completion in 2015.
The Parks lies less than a mile from Bracknell town centre, and the area is served by a number of schools with excellent reputations.
For commuters, Bracknell railway station is a mile from the development, offering regular services to London’s Waterloo and Paddington stations in 60 minutes, and to Reading in just 20 minutes. The M3 and the M4 are easily accessible thanks to the location’s excellent road links.
Homes currently available for sale at The Parks include three-bedroom houses from as little as £289,995, four-bedroom homes from only £349,995 and five-bedroom properties from just £479,995. A selection of one and two-bedroom apartments, plus houses in a range of sizes, will be included in the ongoing development.
Further information about the new homes is available by visiting the Sales Information Centre, located off Hawk Lane, Bracknell Forest, Bracknell, and open daily from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
