Generous Peugeot staff raise £20,000 for charity

Through a variety of activities at Peugeot’s UK headquarters at Pinley House, Coventry, Peugeot staff have raised £20,000 for charity, with £12,000 going to Macmillan Cancer Support and £8,000 going to the Myton Hospice.

The cheques were handed over by Peugeot UK MD, Jonathon Goodman, pictured second from right, and product and pricing manager, Steven Fahey, while Hannah Morris and Sarah Darby received the funds on behalf of Myton Hospice and Macmillan respectively.

“At Peugeot we try to play our part in the local community by raising funds for local charities each year. We are always impressed by the response from our staff who so willingly give their time, effort and money for these causes and I’m delighted to donate £20,000 on their behalf,” said Mr Goodman.

Raising the money involved some sweat, with a group of Peugeot staff running the Coventry half marathon and the Great North Run. Meanwhile, Pinley House hosted a raffle and fund raising day, a coffee morning, a quiz, an auction night and a special Christmas draw, providing other employees with a less physically demanding way to contribute.

Sarah Darby, Fundraising Manager, Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Peugeot employees have been incredibly enthusiastic in their fundraising efforts and have also supported us in a volunteering capacity.  One in three people will receive a cancer diagnosis and as treatments improve, more and more people are living with cancer in their daily lives. This means they need more than medical help, they also need practical, emotional and financial support.  The money that Peugeot has raised will make a real difference to people affected by cancer.

I am delighted that they have decided to support us in 2011 which is our Centenary year.  We have lots of exciting events planned and I’m looking forward to developing this wonderful partnership even further over the coming months.”

Hannah Morris, Corporate Fundraising Development Manager for Myton Hospice, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Peugeot for all its support; the company has raised a fantastic amount which will help us to continue our care for patients with a life-limiting illness.  At the Myton Hospices we provide care and support for more than 2,000 terminally ill patients and their families every year. We have to raise over £6.7 million each year and we wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of the local community and organisations such as Peugeot.”
