National Allergy Week 11th – 17th April

National Allergy Week highlights the misery that many of us face with an allergy. Allergies are widespread and affect approximately ¼ of the population in the UK at some time in their lives .
It is estimated that by 2060 ½ UK population could get hay fever . Allergens such as pollen from trees and grasses are amongst the most common and according to the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit the bitter winter temperatures that we had recently, will encourage birch trees to pollinate early . The changing climate in Britain could also mean an increase in year-round problems for hay fever sufferers, so watch out for your hay fever symptoms as they could start earlier than the year before.
Approximately 40% of young people between the ages of 15-17 suffer with hay fever and it is thought hay fever could be responsible for a drop in at least one grade in examinations, so look out for signs of hay fever around exam time.
