Plastering courses

Leeds-based specialist plastering firm Ornate Interiors are running a number of practical, one day courses over the coming months aimed at homeowners and self build enthusiasts looking to restore their own plasterwork features.

Ornate Interiors MD Ronnie Clifford, whose firm works on many of the UK's most prized architectural landmarks, commented: "This is a great opportunity for homeowners to learn the basic plastering techniques required to carry out lime plastering, repair a cornice and repair and patch historic plasterwork.

"We are running a few courses in 2011 with dates to be announced and they've already proved very popular with organisations such as SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings)."

The courses are as follows:
The Professionals Guide to Repairing a Ceiling Cornice
£95 per person - limited to 8 places - Dates TBA
Watch, learn and have a turn yourself at repairing a fibrous plaster ceiling cornice using the same methods as the professionals

Practical Lime Plastering Techniques
£95 per person - limited to 8 places - Dates TBA
Here each delegate will have a hands-on opportunity to try their hand at applying the traditional 3-coat lime plastering used in the renovation of period properties.

The Repair and Patch of Historic Plasterwork
£95 per person - limited to 8 places - Dates TBA
Learn how to tackle minor repairs to historic plasterwork, understand the work that goes in to identifying the existing plasterwork composition; know what materials to use and more importantly know when to ask for professional help.

Ornate Interiors Ltd, founded in 1989, carries out traditional lime plastering and manufactures and installs highly decorative fibrous plaster mouldings principally for stately homes, listed buildings, hotels, churches, homes and theatres across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe and recently picked up the leading industry award, the Humber Silver Salver, for its work on a new Metro station in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The company also works on behalf of municipal bodies, architects, contractors and surveyors in compiling restoration surveys of buildings that require repairs. For more details visit ornateinteriors.co.uk.
