Owner-driver Andy Kirby treated himself to a new Volvo FMX eight-wheeler as an early Christmas present last December and he’s already more than one mile per gallon up on the fuel economy of his previous truck.

Operating as Pointer Transport Ltd. based in Market Weighton, East Yorkshire, Andy has been a haulier for a local quarry, Humberside Aggregates, for the past 8 years.

Andy explained, “My previous truck, a Hino, was just costing me far too much with repairs and fuel, so I decided to go for the new Volvo FMX 8x4 with their B-ride rear bogie. Volvo’s new design looks the business and the construction looks to be well up to the job,” he said.

Andy also decided to opt for the Boweld AggreLite body with Air Claw auto-tailgate, and further extras such as ProCover Easy Sheet and RTB onboard weigher to help reduce time getting loaded and tipping as, “Time is money” he says.

Supplying Volvo Dealer, Crossroads in Hull, will be looking after Andy’s new truck on a four-year contract hire agreement, so Andy will have peace of mind on the repair and maintenance front.

Sounding like a very happy customer, Andy said, “I’ve got used to the new truck now and I can’t fault it. The Volvo I-Shift automated gearbox was novel at first, but I’m well impressed with it now and its capabilities on- and off-road.”

He’s is also very pleased to be doing so well on fuel so soon. “I am getting 7.5mpg on local deliveries and muck shift work compared to 6.3mpg on the Hino,” he explained.
