Yesterday some of England's sporting greats and 2012 hopefuls faced-off in a friendly competition for bragging rights and gold medals at the Kinect Sports Superstars event.

Captains Graeme Swann, fresh from the cricket World Cup, and Amy Williams, Britain's first individual Winter Olympics Gold medalist from 2010 in skeleton, led their teams with Louis Smith, the first British gymnast to win an Olympic medal (pommel horse) since the 1920s, and Darius Knight, the "Lewis Hamilton of table tennis", to sporting glory as they competed in intense rounds of beach volleyball, boxing, table tennis and track and field on Kinect Sports - all for the thrill of sport.

Kinect Sports, a recent BAFTA Best Family Game award winner from Rare Ltd., turns any living room into a world-class stadium, football pitch or track-and-field arena. Simple, intuitive and instantly fun, the Kinect for Xbox 360 exclusive title is the first full-body, controller-free sports game. It delivers the ultimate party experience with six different individual and team-based events: track and field, football, beach volleyball, boxing, table tennis and bowling.

The Kinect Sports superstars issued a call to action to athletes of all ages to make history on Saturday 23rd April. On this day at 18:00, sprinters from the UK and worldwide can represent their nation by taking part in the largest 100m sprint Guinness World Record attempt on Xbox LIVE and Kinect Sports. Compare your fastest time to Graeme, Amy, Louis and Darius - and see if you can set your own 100m world record.

The world record attempt is taking place during 'Xbox Nations', where all Xbox owners can access the LIVE service for free for the entire Easter weekend. Xbox will be awarding prizes - including a meet and greet and training session with boxer Amir Khan, as well as Premier League tickets - and unlocking Gold member benefits including a world of movies, music, multiplayer gaming and more on Xbox LIVE from Thursday 21 April to Monday 25 April.

The revolutionary Kinect for Xbox 360 lets everyone experience games and entertainment, no controller required. Kinect has been named by Guinness World Records as the Fastest Selling Consumer Electronics Device, by selling eight million units in its first 60 days. To date, Kinect for Xbox 360 has sold more than 10 million units worldwide and there are more than 20 Kinect games available.
