Cheshire businesswoman raises money for cancer charity

In a bid to raise much-needed funds for cervical cancer charity Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. Amy Nelson, spa director of the Nelson family-owned Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa in Cheshire, is performing a sponsored sky dive on 29 April at the Skydive Tilstok facility in Whitchurch, Shropshire.
Inspired to raise funds for the charity after overcoming treatment and an operation to remove severe cancer in situ (cervical abnormalities) that would have progressed to cervical cancer had it not been identified in good time, Amy believes that awareness of cervical cancer and its symptoms must be raised and women encouraged to keep appointments for cervical screening (smear tests).
Reportedly, every year in the UK, over 2,800 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer and nearly 1,000 women will die from the disease. After breast cancer, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women aged 35 and under.
To help Amy raise as much money as possible for the charity, the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa is displaying posters around the property directing visitors to Amy’s online sponsorship page at charitygiving.co.uk and using the hotel’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Anyone who wants to help raise money for the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust charity can go to this website and search for Amy Nelson or simply go direct to charitygiving.co.uk/amynelson1life and make a donation online. Alternatively, interested donors can contact the hotel directly.
Amy Nelson, spa director of the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa, comments: “After experiencing serious health issues myself and overcoming them, I felt I needed to raise awareness of the importance of cervical health and a charity sky dive seemed like a good idea. I’ve received lots of support and donations and I want to raise as much as I can to support the work of this wonderful charity, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. Unfortunately, cervical cancer is more mainstream than we’d like to think and I can’t stress enough how important it is that women keep their appointments for cervical screening. It could save your life.”
