House hunters in Oxfordshire enjoyed a day of family fun at Taylor Wimpey’s flagship housing development Great Western Park in Didcot at the weekend.

The Mayor of Didcot, Councillor Capt John Flood, kicked off the day in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the development’s new, state of the art, interactive visitor centre, before the family fun began.

The sun shone as children made the most of the bouncy castle, face painting and fun-fair stalls, whilst parents learnt all about the grand plans for Great Western Park and viewed the development’s three show homes decked out to reflect the heritage of Didcot railway and to illustrate the life cycle of a typical family.

Chris Ashmore, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire, said: “We’ve already sold almost 50% of the first homes we released for sale with the two bedroom terraces and three bedroom semi-detached homes proving to be particularly popular. This official launch will see more properties being released, including a new style three bedroom detached home that hasn’t been seen in Oxfordshire before.

“A huge amount of money has been invested into this site to ensure residents have the best provisions at their disposal and to encourage a vibrant community spirit. The launch provided a fantastic day for house hunters and the local community and the development was well received by all. We’re confident this site will be a great success with first time buyers, families, up-sizers and down-sizers and we are looking forward to welcoming more house hunters to the site.”

Great Western Park will consist of two, three, four and five bedroom homes. With the first release of two bedroom homes all sold, the homes currently available are three, four and five bedroom and start at £249,995 and occupation is anticipated from summer this year.

Great Western Park is a ten year project which will see a £60m investment into the area and will span 440 acres of land. When complete the ambitious development will comprise 3,300 new homes alongside outstanding recreational facilities, community services, primary and secondary schools, shops, parkland, open spaces and play areas. The investment by Taylor Wimpey will also include £20m for local highway improvements.
