Loeb extends his lead as Elena becomes a record breaker

The triumphant weekend continued with a third place podium finish for Dani Sordo in his privately sponsored Citroën Xsara WRC and fourth place for Xevi Pons, Loeb’s team mate, which helped increase the manufacturers lead for Kronos Total Citroën WRT to 20 points.
The Italian victory saw co-driver Daniel Elena become the first co-driver in WRC history to reach 25 wins and extended Loeb’s championship lead to a massive 31 points. Loeb is now a single win away from equalling the 26 WRC victories achieved by the great Carlos Sainz.
Sébastien Loeb commented: "Victory always tastes sweet. But this one is special. For Daniel, it’s a historic moment. Knowing just how much I want to beat Carlos Sainz’s record myself, I can easily imagine exactly how Daniel is feeling now, after becoming the first co-driver to chalk up 25 wins."
Commenting on his record-breaking achievement Daniel Elena said: "The feeling is indescribable. It’s an intense happiness that is hard to put into words. I’d like to dedicate this record to my family, my daughter Dorine and my friend ‘Beef’ Park."
