Royal wedding results in Easter exodus to the sun

26th April 2011 Print

Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (20th Apr) confirmed a UK Easter exodus with Ryanair’s Easter bookings up over 10% as 1.5m Brits take advantage of Will and  Kate’s wedding ‘holiday’ to enjoy a low fares break in the sun.  Ryanair bookings surged when the Royals set their wedding date last November, with canny holidaymakers spotting an extra bank holiday and an extended Easter break.

Sun destinations are most popular with UK passengers flocking to the Canary Islands, Greece, France, Portugal and Spain.

Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:

“After the Royals set ‘the date’ their subjects planned their escape, by immediately snapping up bargain flights to the sun.  Ryanair’s Easter bookings are up over 10% year-on-year, thanks to the Royal wedding, and with so many Brits set to toast William and Kate from the luxury of the Canary Islands, Greece and France, The Mall and Westminster Abbey might look a little empty on their big day.”
