ScottishPower and E.ON pull cheapest online energy plans
uSwitch.com is warning consumers to sign up to a competitive online energy plan before it's too late. The warning comes after E.ON and ScottishPower pulled their most competitive tariffs off the market this week.
As a result, ScottishPower's most competitive online plan has crept up by £53 with E.ON's soaring by £59. British Gas has steadfastly kept its online price at a market-leading £895 a year, the only supplier to remain below the £900 mark. But with some other suppliers pushing their online prices up, British Gas could now follow suit, which is why households are being urged to take action today.
Emma Bush, energy expert at uSwitch.com, says: "Online energy prices are steadily creeping upwards as a direct result of the current volatility in the wholesale energy market. It is important to remember the best buy plans are only being withdrawn for new customers, so those who had the foresight to sign up while the going was good will see their competitive price preserved at least for the time being.
"The important thing to remember is that there are still some competitive plans out there, but there is clearly now no guarantee that they will be around for long. We really would urge consumers to see this as a last call and to sign up to one now before they too disappear."
