Research by a leading housebuilder suggests it can cost around £30,000 to bring an older property up to the same standard as a new home.

The award-winning housebuilder has calculated the significant sum by totalling the cost of installing equivalent standard kitchens, appliances and bathrooms as well as a new energy efficient heating system, replacement windows and a host of other features, which come as standard in a new home.

So families looking to swap their old draughty house for a luxury new home, which is energy efficient and easy to maintain, need look no further than Redrow Homes’ Aurora Spring development, part of the new Cheswick urban village, close to Bristol city centre.

Nikki Boulton, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), said: “By purchasing a new home instead of an older second hand property, buyers could save themselves a small fortune in DIY costs not to mention time and energy.

“Buying a new home from us means that everything is brand new; you can start living straight away and don’t need to spend money or time redecorating and repairing your home.

“With this in mind our homes at Aurora Spring, are an ideal solution for those who want an easy life. Like all new homes they are also protected by the National House Building Council (NHBC) 10-year Buildmark Warranty and all appliances are covered by two-year manufacturer’s guarantees.”

As well as reaping all of these benefits, buying new lets you take advantage of developer incentives such as help to sell your existing property or cash towards a deposit or stamp duty, which are not available when purchasing a second hand home.

Cheswick urban ‘village’ in the Stoke Park area of north Bristol has been hugely popular. Aurora Spring, one of the individual ‘hamlets’ that make up Cheswick, has a wide choice of three, four and six-bedroom detached homes, which have plenty of space for growing families and bags of potential thanks to their well planned layouts. Prices are from £232,995 to £415,995.

Reminiscent externally of the character properties of the arts and crafts era, the homes from Redrow’s New Heritage Collection boast an interior specification unseen in most new build properties.

As well as new homes, the new village of Cheswick will eventually include shops, places to eat and all the local amenities of an established residential neighbourhood.
