Myrtle Beach, South Carolina voted best beach in U.S.

28th April 2011 Print

Myrtle Beach has recently been voted the best beach in the United States according to a ranking recently released by the travel website Trip Advisor.com.

The travel website judged the category based on a variety of criteria including the number of hotels and restaurants in the area and activities to accommodate any holiday budget.

Myrtle Beach came out on top compared to all other coastal locations in the United States including popular tourist destinations Honolulu and Miami Beach. South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach beat off stiff competition from Cape May, New Jersey and Panama City, Florida. In fact during Trip Adviser’s world-wide search for the best beach, Myrtle Beach was the only State Side beach to make the top five.

The sun drenched shores of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina have been a hit with tourists since the 19th century. Over one hundred years later the booming resort community now offers golf courses, water parks, shopping malls and a thriving nightlife and welcomes nearly 14 million visitors annually. The golden sands are perfect for relaxing and recharging your batteries but if you desire more action, there are a range of activities to explore. From sailing out onto the Atlantic Ocean to watching glorious sunsets to discovering a musical variety show at the Carolina Opry, Myrtle Beach caters for a diverse range of visitor tastes.

In addition to Trip Advisor’s latest announcement, Travel & Leisure magazine and National Geographic have both recently recognized the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, which opened in 2010, as one of the top boardwalks in the United States.
