A week of celebrations for Nausicaa's 20th birthday
From 15 to 20 May 2011, Nausicaa, the French National Sea Life Centre, is celebrating its 20th Birthday and there are plenty of surprises in store to commemorate this important event.
Since its opening, on 18 May 1991, Nausicaa has always been more than just an aquarium. It is a unique Centre of Discovery of the marine environment; at the same time educational, playful and scientific. Giant aquariums, underwater exploration and innovative multimedia technology are all there to create a spectacular experience.
Detailed explanations, a specialised media library, movies, temporary exhibitions, conferences, educational programs and animations help visitors to learn more about the oceans and their marine life. Indeed Nausicaa’s mission is to raise the awareness of the importance of preserving the costal environment. Nausicaa was awarded the Centre of Excellence nomination in 1997 as a recognition of its work.
Wednesday 18 May 2011, all day : Children’s Celebration Day
All children are invited to celebrate with Nausicaa with free face painting, origami, music and special exhibits among the other activities that will be held throughout the day around Nausicaa making their visit to the French Sea Life Centre even more special for the younger ones. Feeding sessions, Sea Lion training and all of Nausicaa’s usual activities will be available for the entire family to enjoy.
Friday 20 May 2011, from 10.30 pm: 20th Birthday Birthday Concert
The internationally renowned composer Luc BAIWIR will give a special “son et lumiere” concert in Nausicaa’s forecourt retracing and celebrating Nausicaa’s 20 years of history, because when you are 20 years old you want to meet new people, save the world and party!
