Discover hidden villages

The Sao Marmede Natural Park, on Portugal's frontier with central Spain, is one of Europe's best kept secrets. Life has changed little in the picturesque villages where bread, cheeses and regional wines are still produced in traditional ways.

Walks Worldwide has an 8 day itinerary starting from the old castle town of Castelo de Vide, then follows ancient stock tracks towards the Pico Sao Mamede, past tranquil lakes, through vineyards and orchards, and along the 'Smugglers' Route', over the border into Spain.

The route passes back into Portugal through rocky countryside carpeted in wild flowers to the mediaeval town of Marvao (a World Heritage Site).

The holiday departs any day between May & October and costs from 655 pp. This includes baggage transfers, 7 nights’ accommodation, most meals and route guide/maps (flights bookable on request).
