Autocar awards the good cops
Last night Autocar magazine paid tribute to two brave police officers at its annual awards ceremony.Police Constables Rus Printer and Glenn Powell collected their awards from Autocar editor Charles Hallett for their extraordinary call of duty in February when they had to deal with a motorist who was driving the wrong way down the M4.
The two police officers knew how serious this incident could be, they have both witnessed similar accidents where there have been fatalities. With full police procedures alerted they set off for the M4 to see what they could do. When they spotted the tail-lights of a car travelling in the wrong direction they quickly left their vehicle and with torches and waving arms managed to flag the driver down and avert what could have been a very nasty accident.
Handing the award over Charles Hallett, Autocar editor said “Traffic Police don’t always get the best press, but here are two who certainly deserve the best, we applaud and thank them”.
Chief Inspector James Vaughan, "Glenn and Rus did a tremendous job in extraordinary circumstances. Their presence of mind, quick thinking and disregard for their own safety, undoubtedly prevented a very serious collision which could have led to death or serious injury to motorists on the M4."
The Autocar awards recognise the endeavours and achievements of the Automotive World and the people within.
