Twin-turbo diesel models reinforce Citroen C5 and C6 line-ups

11th June 2007 Print
Citroen C5 Citroen is enhancing the driver convenience of the C5 with the introduction of an automatic transmission for the range-topping 173hp 2.2HDi engine, in both saloon and estate models. This follows on from the recent addition of this refined, fuel efficient diesel unit to the Company’s flagship C6 line-up.

The C5 2.2HDi automatic will offer an outstanding blend of performance, refinement and economical fuel consumption, with 39mpg possible on the combined cycle, to complement the 6-speed manual gearbox model that is already on-sale in the UK. Maximum torque of 295 lb.ft is available from 1,750 rpm while the car can hit a top speed of 138mph and go from 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds.

The 2.2HDi powerplant has also been recently introduced into the stylish C6 range where it boasts impressively low CO2 emissions of just 175g/km. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission this engine offers C6 customers an even more cost-effective way to get behind the wheel of Citroen’s flagship. Returning a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 43mpg this model provides maximum torque of 273 lb.ft, at just 1,500 rpm, along with a top speed of 135mph and 0-62mph acceleration of under 10 seconds.

On both C5 and C6 models, the green credentials of this Euro IV compliant powerplant are reinforced by the fitment of the Company’s acclaimed Diesel Particulate Filter System (DPFS) which reduces particulate emissions to virtually immeasurable levels.

This latest generation diesel engine benefits from a range of innovations, such as a parallel sequential dual turbo, which has been designed to deliver huge amounts of torque at low engine speeds whilst simultaneously eliminating turbo lag.

It also features a new combustion chamber design that optimises the air/fuel mix to enhance performance and economy, while the third generation common rail increases injection pressure to 1,800 bars, up from 1,350 bars for the first generation system.

The availability of these new models will enhance the reputation of the C5 and C6 as being ultra-comfortable long distance cruisers, aided by the fitment of Citroen’s much admired self-levelling suspension. This latest generation, electronically-controlled Hydractive suspension offers a ‘magic carpet ride’ that constantly adapts to provide the best possible balance of comfort and road holding.

The extremely spacious family-sized C5 cruiser is great value for money, offering a standard specification that includes the likes of automatic digital air conditioning, seven airbags, an alarm and ESP with traction control. The stylish and luxurious C6 executive saloon benefits from exceptional levels of limousine ride comfort, plus all the latest advanced technology. Both models are among the very safest cars on the road, boasting maximum 5-star Euro NCAP ratings for adult occupant protection.
