Algarve Chefs Week

Renowned holiday destination the Algarve is preparing to dish up a range of gourmet delights as part of the inaugural Algarve Chefs Week.

In a first for the destination, head chefs representing each of the major five star hotels across the region will battle it out from 14th to 21st May showcasing their gastronomic skills as part of the Algarve events calendar for the region.

The initiative kicks off with an event on Saturday 14th May from 7pm at Faro International Airport, where ten of the participating chefs will meet and greet arriving visitors, preparing and offering various local delicacies to sample as they arrive. The terminal will be converted into a culinary haven.

The terminal will then be converted into a party site for departures and arrivals, each chef will have their own space at a check-in counter to prepare their bespoke delicacies, enhancing thus the message of an Algarve that intends to be increasingly more authentic and sophisticated (great photo opportunity).

The participating chefs have each developed bespoke menus for guests to sample during the week, with set menus starting from €30 (£27 approx) per person (excluding drinks) and are available daily between 19:30 and 22:30. From each set menu purchased, €1 will be donated to a solidarity institution from the Algarve.

Bertílio Gomes is the master chef directing the Algarve Chefs Week operation and is set to deliver a spectacular culinary performance to delight the senses.

Head chefs playing host at their respective restaurants throughout the week include:

- Stephan Kuehlwetter - Hilton Vilamoura
- Jan Stechemesser - Longevity Wellness Resort
- Luis Correia - The Lake Resort
- Hugo Rodrigues dos Santos - Vila Monte
- José Domingos - Crowne Plaza Vilamoura
- Fernando Fonseca - Grande Real Santa Eulalia
- Fabien Martinez - Sheraton Pine Cliffs
- Carol Douglas - Tivoli Marina Vilamoura
- Chef Bruno - Tivoli Victoria and The Residences

Mario Candeias, Algarve Chefs Week spokesperson said, "Algarve Chefs Week will now be a major event on the Algarve cuisine calendar, perfectly showcasing the fantastic produce, talent and ambience of Europe’s most famous secret and ensuring a unique experience is delivered to each and every visitor”.

“We also aim to highlight the quality of chefs and high-level cuisine on offer in the Algarve and we feel it is important to bring the chefs out of the kitchen and introduce them to visitors,” Mr Candeias said.
