Citroen offers free congestion charge choice

8th August 2007 Print
Citroen C4 No fewer than 23 models in Citroen’s current line-up could become exempt from the London’s Congestion Charge, if Mayor Ken Livingstone’s proposals, announced in full today, get the green light.

The proposal is that vehicles in Band A and B, emitting 120g/km or less of CO2 and which meet the Euro 4 standard for air quality would be eligible for a 100% discount for London’s Congestion Charging Zone. Citroen is already one step ahead in offering a wide selection of environmentally friendly cars that could qualify for this 100% discount.

Included in the 23 Citroen models is the family sized C4, thanks to its intelligent new EGS (Electronic Gearbox System) and ultra clean 1.6 HDi engine. Funky superminis such as the 109g/km C1, the C2 and C3, all with excellent Euro NCAP occupant safety ratings, would also be exempt.

Whilst Congestion Charging is limited to the Capital at present, the levy is in the consultation stage across many large UK cities. Others considering the surcharge include Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff and Manchester with the latter already targeting a 2012 launch date.
