Big Citroen display at Business Car Live Show

Citroen’s 18 strong vehicle display at this year’s Business Car Live Show (Gaydon, 26 & 27 September) includes the newly launched, 40mpg C-Crosser 4x4 as well as an impressive selection of other low emission cars. In addition, the company’s lcv display includes the Berlingo Dual Fuel (petrol/LPG) van, the recently launched, all-new Dispatch and Relay ranges and the UK’s most economical commercial vehicle, the C2 Enterprise 1.4HDi.

Citroen low emission cars

Today Citroen offers one of the widest ranges of affordable, fuel-efficient and low-emission vehicles available. These models incorporate a range of advanced, fuel economy enhancing, emission reducing technology, such as Citroen’s Diesel Particulate Filter System (DPFS), Stop & Start technology and Electronic Gearbox System (EGS). With all of this, and having just been named the Green Fleet Car Manufacturer of the Year for the second consecutive year, Citroen makes a very strong case to be considered the UK’s greenest car company.

The Citroen car range includes over 20 models with CO2 emissions of 120g/km or less. With its current customer offers, Citroen’s low CO2, environmentally-friendly cars are available from under £6,000 - making these cars the affordable choice for both business and private motorists.

The choice of low emission Citroen cars not only includes superminis, but also family-size cars. There are seven three and five door C1 city cars with a choice of petrol or diesel power, all returning very low CO2 emissions of 109g/km. There are also four 1.4HDi C2 diesel powered cars with low, 113g/km CO2 emissions and five C3 diesels with CO2 emissions in the 115-120g/km band. In addition, there are three family-size, low emission 1.6HDi powered C4 three-door coupe and five-door hatchback cars available with low 120g/km CO2 emissions.

As part of its continuing move to reduce the environmental impact of its vehicles, Citroen has:-

announced that all of its HDi powered cars and LCVs can be run on up to 30% bio-diesel without modification, giving a significant reduction in CO2 emissions
- introduced its advanced, new, six-speed EGS system, which reduces CO2 emissions

expanded the availability of its Stop & Start technology - with significant urban environmental advantages

expanded the range of cars available with self-regenerating DPFS, which reduces particle emissions to virtually immeasurable levels

The family-size C4 achieves its low, 120g/km CO2 emissions thanks to a combination of its fuel-efficient 1.6HDi 110hp engine and emission-reducing EGS technology. EGS, which is up to 5% more economical than a manual gearbox, combines the convenience of an automatic with the driver involvement of a manual. It does away with the clutch pedal and allows the driver to change gear manually, with steering column mounted paddles, or drive in full automatic mode.

The expanded range of Citroen Stop & Start equipped C2 and C3 cars delivers a combination of economy, emission reduction (133g/km & 135g/km CO2 respectively) and noise reduction, in an affordable, easy to use package. Independent testing has shown that Stop & Start improves fuel consumption by up to 25% in urban traffic. Also government fuel figures show that Stop & Start delivers a 6% improvement in the combined cycle, allowing the C2 Stop & Start to return 50.4mpg and the C3 Stop & Start 49.6mpg.

Other Stop & Start benefits include clutchless, semi-automated manual driving or full automatic driving and lower noise/vibration levels when the vehicle is stationary. In a C2 or C3 Stop & Start model, when the driver brakes to a halt the engine switches itself off and remains in standby mode as long as the footbrake is pressed down. As soon as the driver releases the brake the engine restarts automatically within some 400 milliseconds (less than half the time it normally takes).

Citroen green commercial vehicles

As one of the UK’s largest suppliers of light commercial vehicles, Citroen is fully committed to reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles. In recent months Citroen has made significant progress in further improving the already impressive fuel efficiency and low emissions capability of its vehicles. At the same time as making major product improvements, Citroen has maintained its policy of competitive pricing, which means that an increasing number of van buyers can afford to specify newer, cleaner and more fuel efficient Citroen vehicles.

A key feature of Citroen’s latest round of product improvements has been the adoption of the latest generation of Euro 4 HDi engines, which are widely recognised as being among the cleanest and most fuel efficient available. These state-of-the-art HDi diesel engines can be operated on up to 30 per cent bio-diesel, without any modifications, to provide further CO2 emission reductions.

Citroen’s Euro 4 1.4HDi powered C2 Enterprise van, which independent testing has shown to be the UK’s most economical diesel van, returning 82.98mpg and with an ultra-low 113g/km CO2 figure, has now been joined by the new 2007 Euro 4 1.6HDi powered Berlingo range and the all-new, all Euro 4 engined Dispatch and Relay ranges. In addition to their fuel-efficient, low emission diesel engines, Dispatch models powered by the 2.0HDi 136hp engine also break new ground by being the first LCVs to be fitted with Citroen’s ultra-clean Diesel Particulate Filter System (DPFS). This reduces particulate emissions to virtually immeasurable levels.

Further boosting efficiency, new Citroen Dispatch and Relay vans are the first to be fitted, as standard, with Trafficmaster Smartnav satellite navigation and Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking systems. The efficient vehicle routing capability provided by their standard-fit Trafficmaster Smartnav satellite navigation system means that Dispatch & Relay van operators benefit from:-

the elimination of wasted mileage incurred looking for delivery destinations

fuel and other vehicle running cost savings as a result of the elimination of wasted mileage

greater vehicle efficiency provided by time savings and the elimination of wasted mileage

Operators confirm that with Trafficmaster Smartnav’s effective routing and fleet management capability, fuel savings of up to 13% plus associated emission-reduction benefits can be achieved along with average time savings of up to four hours per month per vehicle, which are worth up to £2,000 per vehicle per year.

In addition to the fuel efficiency and low emission benefits of the Euro 4 HDi engines, these units also provide other environmental advantages. With their extended service intervals (Dispatch, up to 20,000miles and Relay, up to 25,000miles) the Euro 4 HDi engines also play a key role in reducing the use of lubricating oil resulting in a major reduction in the amount of waste oil and used oil filters sent for disposal.

Citroen has also made it more affordable for business users to specify low emission, dual fuel vans. The company has announced that, as part of its new 2007 Ready to Run programme, Berlingo Dual Fuel (petrol/LPG) vans are now available at just £7,995 + VAT – the UK’s most competitive price for a London Congestion Charge exempt, dual fuel high cube van.

The Nicholson McLaren Engines (NME) converted Berlingo 600 LX 1.4i Dual Fuel (petrol/LPG) van is exempt from the London Congestion Charge as it meets Powershift Band 4 emission standards. This provides Congestion Charge zone based operators of Berlingo Dual Fuel vans with a significant cost saving of £1,696 p.a. as well as providing fuel cost savings.
