€10,000 to reinvent the wheel
Citroen has launched an innovative international design competition with a top prize of €10,000 - aimed at inspiring designers of all ages and nationalities to adopt a different perspective to designing products for use in everyday life.‘C-Design – Combine, Connect, Create’ is an online competition, sponsored by Citroen Italy, inviting entrants to incorporate 3D elements from Citroen’s range of models and concept cars into new designs of everyday objects.
Citroen’s Styling Centre has created 3D models of its vehicles and components, and made them available for download from the competition website www.aedo-to.com/citroen. These include the stylish, executive C6 and the latest concepts such as the stunning C5 Airscape and innovative C-Cactus.
With this competition, Citroen, renowned for iconic designs such as the DS and more recently the C6, frees designers from the usual constraints and has given entrants the opportunity to indulge their fantasies in reinterpreting vehicle elements to create an innovative project. The possibilities are endless, with participants able to incorporate any other object or material and use each element any number of times.
Submissions will be evaluated by a prestigious jury of senior figures from several design disciplines such as architecture and automotive, including Citroen’s Head of Styling, Jean Pierre Ploué.
The closing date for submitting projects is 15 January 2008, with registrations open until 8 January 2008. The 1st prize is €10,000, 2nd prize is €6,000 and 3rd prize is €4,000, with a selection of the best projects prototyped and previewed at Milan’s Internation Design Exhibition, I Saloni in 2008.
