Residents at a new housing development in Redditch have come together to support a charity, The Afghanistan Trust, to raise money to support injured soldiers of the 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment, as well as the families of those fallen, in memory of their friend and loved one Lance Corporal Dale Hopkins.

Sam Berry, charity fundraiser, was a great friend of Dale’s and by coincidence lives at the same new build development as Dale’s parents, sister and two other friends. Sam comments: “Dale was much loved by many and his funeral was attended by over 1,500 people in Redditch. As Dale’s family and friends, we felt it would be very fitting to remember him through assisting others affected by the war in Afghanistan.

“We’ve already raised over £26,000 in just a few months and 28 of us have undertaken a 10,000 foot sky dive and we’re now planning our next fundraising expeditions including a three peaks challenge.”

In support Persimmon Homes South Midlands, which is building the Windsor Heights development in Redditch where the organisers live, has made a donation to the charity to help purchase clothing for the expedition.

Alison Reading, sales director for Persimmon Homes South Midlands comments: “It’s wonderful to see a true sense of community forming at Windsor Heights and we are honoured to assist such a terrific charity. On behalf of the whole team at Persimmon I’d like to wish them the best of luck with their fundraising activities.”

Sam adds: “I’d like to thank the team at Persimmon for their support and it’s great that so many of us live at the company’s Windsor Heights development, as it means we can meet and discuss the charity’s next steps so easily.”
