Aussie residents tell visiting relatives where to go

16th May 2011 Print

It’s no surprise that the top three tours booked by traditional tourists to Australia include the rock, reef and Sydney but Australasia specialist Austravel has uncovered some unusual findings for those who travel to visit friends and relatives (VFR Market).

Whereas holiday-makers book to see quintessential Australian icons, the VFR Markets is looking for longer, more immersive experiences with the top three tours being a two-day tour of Kangaroo Island, a trips to Tangalooma Dolphin Resort and an island tour of Rottnest, Perth.

“Whilst first-time or traditional travellers want iconic experiences such as a Sounds of Silence Dinner at Uluru (Ayers Rock) or climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the VFR Market are much keener to get under the skin of the country that is their loved ones’ adopted home. Kangaroo Island, Tangalooma and Rottnest are all popular holiday spots for locals but less well-known to overseas visitors. It’s fantastic that the VFR Market are following recommendations and getting off the beaten track,” said Ben Briggs, Brand Manager at Austravel.
