Santander helps son bring home the bacon

31st May 2011 Print

Min-Y-Morfa Farm Shop in Bodelwyddan, North Wales is being passed down to the next generation of the Pithers family and opened up to holidaymakers, following the retirement of the current owners. George and Rosalind Pithers have run the farm and shop for almost a decade and recently provided their free-range Welsh bacon to Parliament for St David's Day celebrations.

Their son Ross has been working on the farm for around five years and is extending the existing farmhouse so he and his family can permanently relocate from Chester. He also intends to use some of the land as a caravan site for visitors. The refinance of the farm and the development has been supported by a commercial mortgage provided by Santander Business Banking and is part-backed by European Investment Bank funding.

The farm is set in fifty acres of farmland and has a farm shop and café. The café is popular amongst locals and serves a range of homemade food, such as sausage sandwiches, all-day breakfasts and baked potatoes. The farm shop stocks all of their home-grown produce, from fruit and veg to the finest farm-reared fillet steak.

Ross Pithers said: "My family and I are excited to be crossing the border and taking up permanent residence in North Wales. We have lots of plans for Min-Y-Morfa, including using some of the land as a caravan site for holidaymakers. The farm is situated in a beautiful part of Wales, only three kilometres from the beach, as well as being a short distance from Bodelwyddan Castle, Seaquarium and Geronimo's Adventure Playground in Rhyl, so there's plenty for all the family.

"I'm really grateful for the support I have received from Samantha Shillingford at Santander. She has really taken the time to understand my vision and ambitions for the future and I'm thrilled to be moving forward with support from a bank like Santander. I was introduced to Santander by my broker, Robert Harrison of ASC Finance For Business in Merseyside."

Samantha Shillingford, Relationship Manager at Santander Business Banking, said: "I'm really pleased we've been able to support the refinance and expansion of Min-Y-Morfa Farm in North Wales. The business is already very successful and with Ross's plans for the future, I'm confident it will continue to grow and grow."
