Taitung, the third largest city in Taiwan, located in the centre of the island, has welcomed its first five-star property, the Formosan Naruwan Hotel, which has just received the coveted rating from the Tourism Bureau.

The Formosan Naruwan combines modern design with traditional aboriginal culture and offers a history of the Lu-Kai, Dao, Puyuma and Amis tribes through its décor and artwork.

The hotel has 217 stylish rooms, including two suites, as well as boasting three restaurants, a shopping arcade, the Naruwan theatre, an outdoor pool area and spa facilities.

It costs from £162* per night for a Deluxe Queen room, based on two people sharing on a bed and breakfast basis.
