New care facility at retirement village in Cornwall

A new care facility has been described as ‘marvellous’ by Falmouth and Truro MP Sarah Newton.

Mrs Newton was the guest of honour at the opening of the Penlee Unit, a new 18 bed facility specially designed for those living with dementia.

Having officially opened the Unit at Roseland Parc Retirement Village in Tregony, near Truro, Mrs Newton enjoyed a tour of the grade II listed building which has been fully refurbished in line with the latest research into caring for those with dementia. The communal rooms include a reminiscence lounge decorated in the style of times gone by and a multi-sensory room. Picture prompts are in evidence throughout and there is a newly-planted secure garden area for residents to enjoy in safety and comfort.

Mrs Newton said: “From what I have seen today this is a marvellous facility. With an estimated 8,700 people living with dementia in Cornwall, it is vital that facilities like the Penlee Unit are available.”

During her visit, Mrs Newton met residents, their families, staff and directors of Retirement Villages, the company which owns and manages Roseland Parc and the Penlee Unit.

She said: “I am delighted to see such a well thought out unit. It is clear that it is able to provide residents with a comfortable and stimulating environment in which to live and enjoy life.”

Retirement Villages Chief Executive Jon Gooding said: “The official opening of the Penlee Unit marks an important milestone for Roseland Parc. The facilities have been updated and modernised and this extension of the living options makes Roseland Parc a village, and a home, we can all be proud of.”
