The 17th Annual St Clare Hospice Golf Day, organised and supported by Home Counties developer Weston Homes, helped to raise £40,000 for the Hospice on Friday June 3rd.

In total, 61 teams of golfers from across the country took part to help raise funds for the palliative care provider St Clare Hospice, which is celebrating its 21st Anniversary this year.

St Clare Hospice is a charity providing specialist care for people living with a terminal or life limiting illnesses in West Essex and the East Hertfordshire border. The hospice cares for patients and their families, providing physical, social, psychological and spiritual support.

The exciting event, which was held at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club in Essex, continued to prove popular this year by attracting teams of four who competed throughout the day on two courses of 18 holes for a number of prizes, which included a golf bag, Powerbee Solar Charger and Fuji FinePix Digital Camera. World Snooker and Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn was amongst those taking part.

The winners on the courses were Essex Autospray and London Engineering respectively, with London Engineering winning the overall prize of a Kindle and an engraved desk clock and decanter.

Weston Homes has been the event’s main sponsor for more than a decade. Bob Weston, Chairman and Chief Executive for Weston Homes, comments: “St Clare Hospice is a cause that is very close to our hearts and it is fantastic that we have been able to raise a total of £40,000 this year. I would like to thank everyone who attended the golf day or contributed in some way to such a worthy cause. I know the money raised will greatly help St Clare Hospice to continue the excellent work that they do.”

Tanya Curry, Acting CEO and Director of Patient Care at St Clare Hospice, comments: “Our genuine heart felt thanks go to Weston Homes. We are hugely grateful for their efforts and for once again choosing to support St Clare. The money raised makes a significant difference to the care we can provide, particular in these uncertain financial times."
