Can't live without a good night's sleep
An overwhelming majority of Brits - 73 per cent - chose their bed as one of the most important items in their home over the likes of cookers, boilers, fridges and washing machines.
We struggle to get out of them, like to eat our breakfast in them and according to a new survey, could absolutely not live without them.
It is of course the bed, which according to new research by npower hometeam 50, is the number one item Brits claim to be unable to live without.
An overwhelming majority of Brits - 73 per cent - chose their bed as one of the most important items in their home over the likes of cookers, boilers, fridges and washing machines. And when asked to choose every item in the home they absolutely couldn’t live without, 49 per cent of respondents chose their television, 42 per cent their computer, 41 per cent their kettle and one in ten picked their DVD player. In a shock result nearly a third of the 3,000 respondents polled said a mirror was their must-have item.
Yet despite prioritising an evening in front of the telly and a good night’s sleep above all else, conversely Brits’ biggest fears are going without hot water (55%), heating (53%), and their pipes bursting (47%) when it comes to things going wrong in their home.
Only seven per cent worry about being unable to record their TV programme, just one in six still claim they would feel lost if their TV broke, and only 28 per cent fear losing their internet connection.
Emily Stagg, npower hometeam 50 manager, comments: “As the place we start and end every day, it’s perhaps not surprising that the bed is the number one item that Brits think they can’t live without. But comfort aside, it’s easy to forget more essential items such as boilers and central heating pipes that are always working to keep our homes warm and supply us with hot water.
“Less than 50 per cent of our respondents chose their boiler as the item they couldn’t live without, yet the majority of Brits name being left without heating and hot water as their biggest fear.
“To help combat this worry, we’re encouraging homeowners not to wait until something goes wrong to take action – after all, over two thirds say they have had to survive without heating and hot water in the past. Make sure the essential items in your home like your boiler are always front of mind and in good working order with regular services and an annual cover plan such as npower’s hometeam 50.”
Eighty six per cent of respondents say they would feel frustrated or annoyed if their boiler broke down and 43 per cent say that the boiler is the first thing that they would fix if it broke down compared to only seven per cent who would immediately fix their broken bed.
Emily continues: “Only half of those polled have their boiler regularly serviced, which can help to prevent boiler breakdowns. No-one wants to be left without heating or hot water and as boilers are often the most expensive item in a home, it makes sense to look after them and consider signing up to a care product. Not only will this ensure your system is working efficiently and safely all year round, but will also make sure you’re prepared should anything go wrong.”
npower hometeam 50 is available for both boiler care and central heating care, both working under the same principle - if the customer doesn’t call out npower’s hometeam to work on their boiler or central heating during the 12 month care plan, npower will automatically return 50% of the annual cost on their year anniversary.
In order to take advantage of the 50% No Call Out Cash Back, homeowners just need to sign up to and be receiving npower’s gas and electricity supply before the end of their 12 month agreement.
hometeam 50 also includes an annual boiler service, usually worth £75.57, meaning customers will get the reassurance of care for 12 months AND a service and could still receive their 50% cash back if they don’t call out npower during that year.
