Protyre and Toyo Tires at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Protyre, the UK’s largest independent tyre retailer, part of the Micheldever Group, will be partnering with Japanese premium tyre manufacturer, Toyo Tires, at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with tyre safety being an important theme on the stand. With an increasing number of cars on UK roads with illegal or badly worn tyres, the two companies have devised an exclusive game which invites customers to the stand to select the stopping distances with different levels of tread depth from 0.9mm to 6.7mm.

The aim of the game is to explain the dangers of allowing tyre tread depth to fall at, below, or close to, the legal minimum. Protyre/Micheldever closely monitors on a regular basis the tyre tread depth of all cars visiting their 53 UK outlets. Most recent figures indicate a deteriorating condition with 53% having at least one illegal tyre and a further 36% with a tyre at or below 2mm.

“We are delighted to be back at the Festival of Speed with our tyre partner Toyo Tires” said Micheldever Group CEO, Paul Fox. “We are concerned about the level of illegal tyres we are seeing at our retail outlets and so as part of our commitment to road safety, we have developed this simple game that will test the driver and indicate how seriously braking distances will deteriorate as tread depth decreases”.

Nick Manning, managing director at Toyo Tires said, “We have a shared road safety vision with our colleagues at Protyre. Tyres are certainly one of the most crucial components on a car and yet they are often totally overlooked by the driver. Our interactive safety game at Goodwood, we hope, will draw attention to the important part that tyres play in road safety.”
