Vintage TV, the UK’s first music and popular culture channel dedicated to the decades spanning the ‘50s to the ‘80s, has been crowned the “Best Themed Channel” at the Freesat Awards 2011.

The channel beat tough competition from the likes of CBS Drama and True Movies 1 to win the award. The awards, which were held in London last night, recognise and celebrate the very best channels and services available on Freesat.

David Pick, CEO and Founder of Vintage TV said: “Vintage TV is a labour of love for us that consistently attracts an audience of more than half a million viewers each week. It is great to get this recognition for the team who have worked diligently to create a channel where 40% of the content is exclusive to Vintage TV.”

Pick continued: “As Vintage TV approaches its first birthday it is incredible to look back at the rich and varied programming which we have created and broadcast. Highlights include Mike Read’s interview with Robbie Robertson, a special featuring 10cc’s Graham Gouldman, and the upcoming ‘Paul Young - In Conversation’.”

The judging panel included leading industry figures such as Tess Alps, Chief Executive at Thinkbox, Nick Betts, Head of Commercial and Business Development at the BBC, Nick Bampton, Commercial Sales Director at Channel 5 and Ben Preston, Editor at the Radio Times.

Judges’ comments included: “Vintage TV scooped the award for breaking the mould, identifying a significant and substantial gap in the market and successfully filling it. The channel was praised for capturing a niche audience in a very short time.”

Viewers can tune into Vintage TV on Sky 369 and Freesat 515 on Thursday 21st July at 8pm to catch ‘Paul Young - In Conversation’.
