Virgin Media opens up the world of Discovery 3D

Virgin Media has announced that it will be making all-new Discovery 3D content available to UK consumers on demand from August onwards. Through its marketing leading on demand service all Virgin Media ‘XL’ TV customers will be able to enjoy the ingenuity of specially created 3D programmes and all at no extra cost. The deal covers a number of genres that Discovery fans have come to love including Natural History, Engineering, Extreme Sports and Crime documentary.
Kicking off with three crime and thriller features, the programmes get off to a spooky start, as Discovery takes viewers on a chilling 3D journey. Venturing into the unknown Discovery has uncovered strange things going on within a haunted mansion in New Orleans, as well as following a team of paranormal investigators track down spooks and spectres in the bloodstained town of South Dakota, once home to Wild Bill Hickok.
As the first company to launch a 3D On Demand TV offering in the UK, Virgin Media is going from strength to strength in expanding the range of 3D programmes available to its entire TV customer base through a wide selection of movies, short films, music videos as well as delivering high profile live sporting action.
Aleks Habdank, director digital entertainment product said: “We’re dedicated to offering the most up-to-date content available on the market and this latest deal opens up new ways for Discovery channel fans to experience its superior quality programming.
“Our on demand service is a great way to deliver 3D content and for families to get their 3D fix, allowing them to pick and choose what they want to watch, when they want to watch it and coupled with our Virgin Media TiVo service provides the most advanced TV offering in the UK.”
