New homes in Easingwold could bring £1.8m community sports boost

A planning application submitted for 85 new homes off York Road, in Easingwold, could bring a £1.8 million windfall for a neighbouring North Yorkshire school and local residents.

If permission is granted for Redrow Homes’ plans, Easingwold School will benefit from funding for a new sports hall, which would also be available for local community use.

It hinges on whether Hambleton District Council agrees to a reduction in the level of on-site affordable housing to 25%, which would free up the money to be ploughed into the much-needed sports facilities.

Redrow’s proposals for 85 homes on a site of just over eight-and-a-half acres would also bring with them contributions to education and health improvements locally, as well as public open space.

John Grime, managing director of Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), said: “We’ve held a number of public consultation events locally and the suggestion that we could boost sports facilities at Easingwold School, both for the benefit of pupils and local residents, proved to be a very popular option.”

Redrow is planning a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes from its traditionally styled New Heritage Collection, with a predominance of detached family homes.

Individual homes will display external features more typical of older, ‘character’ homes, such as dropped eaves, projecting plinths, bays and other distinctive window styles, timber or tiled canopies over doors and windows, supported by decorative gallows brackets, and the use of larch lap boarding as a feature. Inside, however, they will be spacious, bright and modern, with family friendly, open plan layouts, high specification kitchens and bathrooms, and quality fixtures and fittings throughout.

Easingwold is a popular market town situated in the heart of the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, just 13 miles north of York. It’s an area that’s rapidly making a name for itself as a ‘food lover’s paradise’, with award winning delis, tearooms and restaurants all found locally.

Subject to planning approval Redrow hopes to begin building new homes this autumn and to launch sales in spring 2012.

Redrow is already offering homes from its New Heritage Collection at developments in Sherburn-in-Elmet and the village of Hambleton, near Selby. For more details, visit redrow.co.uk.
