Buy a new home in Caversham and start saving money

As the cost of living continues to rise, it’s up to homeowners to consider how they could save money and in the house is one possible solution. The answer is easy in the case of purchasers in the Caversham area, however, thanks to Highfield Development’s nrg scheme.

This collection features ten two bedroom properties in a mix of apartments and homes and has proved so popular that only one of the houses remains. What sets it apart from the rest of the competition is its energy efficient specification.

The insulation in these properties goes further than the industry standard and has a ‘hermetic’ seal to keep hot air in and cold air out. Also, a special heat exchanger takes the heat out of air being expelled and reuses it to warm the fresh air coming in. Solar energy systems, meanwhile, help to keep the water hot, which is stored so you have continual usage.

Utility rates are ever increasing and the homes at nrg aim to address this, so that you use less energy and save more money. For Angela Hill, one of the purchasers at the development, it was exactly the thought of saving money that encouraged her to buy one of the apartments here.

Angela comments: “The homes have so many energy efficient features and saving money in the long term, as well as reducing my carbon footprint, was a strong influence on buying here. The exterior of the properties, with their unique design, really reflects the development’s contemporary nature, which attracted my eye and was another selling point.”

The homes have natural cedar wood cladding that will age to match the neighbouring trees, as well as a sedum plant roof, which not only sits seamlessly with the surrounding foliage, but also protects the rooftop and offers an alternative to drainpipes and guttering, as all the water is absorbed by the plant.

The property that remains is priced at £249,950 and offers unique accommodation. Entering on the ground level, visitors will find an open plan kitchen and living room, as well as a convenient cloakroom and terrace, which overlooks the rear garden. Stairs then lead downstairs to the lower ground level, which is home to the two bedrooms, both featuring an en suite shower room. The master bedroom leads out onto its own patio, providing access to the garden and the properties come with allocated parking.

The surrounding area itself is something which will greatly appeal to house hunters. A neighbouring wood and brook give the development a picturesque setting and as it is situated on a quiet corner of Grove Hill, it offers a peaceful retreat.

However, it was the convenience and commutability of the homes in particular that attracted Angela, she said: “My apartment is only a five minute drive to the centre of Caversham and is certainly within walking distance. There are many amenities in the vicinity and with a bus stop at the end of the road, which offers a direct route into Reading city centre, nrg truly is a perfect base.”
