Madeira has a mild sub-tropical climate and with the aid of the Gulf Stream manages to keep temperatures warm all year round. Madeira’s micro-climate means that temperatures rarely fall outside the range of 18 to 25 degrees Celsius and the island generally enjoys average temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius right to the end of November.

Booking a holiday to the Quintas da Madeira is the perfect tonic to avoid the winter blues and nights closing in. The Quintas da Madeira is a collection of 10 traditional manor houses that have been carefully converted into some of the islands’ finest boutique hotels, ranging from modern, contemporary design hotels to centuries-old, country house style properties. There are a number of activities that can be arranged by the Quintas including stunning Levada walks. Levadas are the traditional irrigation systems that were used to bring water from the mountains to the coastal villages, today they are used as pathways through Madeira's beautiful forests and mountains. The Levada’s are graded from easy through to challenging. For those that want a more extreme adventure pot holing is also available. Alternatively guests can also enjoy golf, dolphin and whale watching, tennis, croquet, fishing and a range a relaxing spa treatments.

Garden and floral enthusiasts will enjoy checking into one of the Quintas da Madeira as many of the properties have spectacular botanical gardens with a fascinating and varied collection of plant life and most grow fruit and vegetables that are served up to guests eating in the restaurant. Each garden offers different flora and fauna and many properties boast rare and unusual species.
