After a complete revamp, Avonpark Village’s new clubhouse is set to be unveiled by former BBC newsreader Martyn Lewis.

And it will immediately become the venue for the first Avonpark Village Festival. Eight weeks of planned events will firmly establish the remodelled facilities as sitting at the heart of the retirement village.

Mr Lewis, whose mother lived at Avonpark Village, will be meeting residents before unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion in front of invited guests on October 14.

A host of free events, from coffee mornings to seminars, wine tasting to lunches will then give local people the chance to visit the village and see the new facilities for themselves.

The retirement village, in Winsley Hill, near Bath, was acquired by Retirement Villages Ltd last November, Work began almost immediately on upgrading the facilities.

“We saw a great opportunity to enhance the lives and lifestyles of the current residents and to make it more attractive to those looking for a new home in the future,” said the company’s Chief Executive Jon Gooding.

A rolling programme of upgrading has seen areas of the village redecorated throughout this year. Three months of intensive work has seen new clubhouse facilities emerge in the main building, Alexander Hall. A new lounge with library area has been created, informal eating areas have been introduced and an entirely new reception area with seating has been developed.

“The Festival will be a celebration of our new look village,” said Jon. “The work we have done has transformed the clubhouse and we’re looking forward to welcoming both those who are familiar with Avonpark Village and those who have never been here to join in those celebrations.”

Information about the events is available at avonparkvillage.co.uk.

Retirement Villages Ltd has been developing and managing bespoke lifestyle and care villages for the over 55s for 30 years.
