Leading Cheshire hotel, The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa, recently welcomed celebrity cricketer Freddie Flintoff as its guest when he hosted a Charity Sportsman’s Dinner in aid of children’s charity Wooden Spoon, which supports disadvantaged children across the UK and Ireland.

Forty guests attended the glitzy event – including former England Rugby League player Andy Gregory, former England Rugby Union players Simon Halliday and Chris Sheasby, Samantha Brook-Chrispin of Seabrook Crisps – and they were treated to a complimentary three course meal in the magnificent Mediterranean style Ciro’s Brasserie.

The after-dinner raffle and silent auction – during which several cricket bats signed by Freddie Flintoff were auctioned – and the charity cricket match held the following day – sponsored by Seabrook Crisps – raised £5,000 for Wooden Spoon.

Lucy Nelson, sales and marketing director of Nelson Hotels, says: “We were delighted to support such a worthwhile cause. Many people, including Freddie, freely gave of their time and we were honoured to be able to contribute.”

Event organiser Richard Greenwood adds: “Everyone had a wonderful evening raising funds for a very worthy charity. The setting was perfect and the generosity of the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa, in providing much welcomed support and such wonderful food in beautiful surroundings was very much appreciated.”
