i luv my can announce ten lucky finalists

i luv my can, the nationwide search for the most imaginative and creative use of empty drinks cans, has today announced its ten lucky finalists.
Launched in June by TV presenter and avid recycler, Miquita Oliver, the competition challenged lovers of iced-cold drinks to turn ordinary beverage cans into beautiful creations for a chance to win an amazing prize fund and help a worthy charity.
Among the shortlisted ten can creations are a gorgeous couture-inspired bustier made from empty beer cans, a lanyard made from ring pulls intricately woven together, and an eight foot Union Jack flag created using over 250 individual cans.
One entrant, Ade Dalby of Manchester, has scooped two finalist places with a larger than life spider sculpture, and an angle poise lamp made from a single soft drinks can, complete with a working LED light. Some participants took their designs to the extremes; ‘Heine-Ken the Kayaking Can’ was filmed careering down rapids in the French Alps, pulling slow motion flips and tricks. One entrant created a miniature hot air balloon that flew across south west London, taking in scenes of Richmond Park and the River Thames.
The ten finalists will each be awarded a trophy and a selection of the best creations will be auctioned to raise money for the Art Fund, the UK’s leading charity that helps secure great art for museums and galleries for everyone to enjoy.
The overall winner will be announced in October and receive a prize fund of £1000 and a year’s supply of their favourite canned drink.
John Revess, from Beverage Can Makers Europe comments, “I’m thrilled by the variety, high level of creativity and great skill evident in the ten finalist entries. This competition has been a fun way to get people to look at the drinks can in a different light, recognising that the can is not only a sustainable resource but a versatile form of packaging.”
“Every part of every drinks can is 100% recyclable and infinitely so without loss of quality and making cans from recycled material cuts carbon emissions by up to 95%. It makes great sense to recycle your can.”
